One winter break my family decided to take a mini vacay but not from the cold like most people would prefer, but rather to a place which becomes a winter wonderland. Our roadtrip to a couple cities in Alberta went like this (excluding the million times we had to pull over the car, get out, and just appreciate the beauty in front of us):

1. Landing in Calgary and leaving early the next day to drive to Jasper National Park

2. Jasper

  • Icefields Parkway
  • Sunwapta Lake
  • Athabasca Falls

3. Columbia Icefield (between Jasper and Banff)

4. Banff

  • Ice walk to the frozen waterfalls of Johnston Canyon (guided tour)
  • Horseback ride with views of the Canadian Rockies
  • Banff Upper Hot Springs
  • Fairmont Banff Springs

5. Lake Louise

  • Ice castle on Lake Louise
  • Skating on Lake Louise

6. Edmonton

  • West Edmonton mall
  • Edmonton Ice Castles

7. Drumheller

  • Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology
  • Saw the worlds largest dinosaur statue
  • Star Mine suspension bridge
  • Hoodoos trail

8. Calgary

  • New years celebration in downtown Calgary

Visiting all these cities made me realize that Canadians don't have to leave their country to have their breath taken away.
